Eurypholis were fast-swimming predators that had several large scutes (bony scales) arranged in a row along the back and an enormous mouth with sharp teeth, reminiscent of some modern deep sea fishes.
This specimen of Eurypholis is an “absolute must have” for three reasons. Firstly, the specimen (especially the skull) retains a degree of tri-dimensional relief with superb conservation of the bones, sharp teeth, and armored scutes. Secondly, the rare ventral position of the specimen creates a unique opportunity to view features that are usually hidden in specimens on their sides. And lastly, it is the best specimen that you have ever seen of this genus, and certainly in this position.
Comparables: On this web-page there are two specimens, a very ugly one at $550 (but twice as big as mine) and a smaller one that’s not even worthy of comparison for $125. Here’s one that is smaller and vastly less conserved that sold for $425. And here’s a half dozen commonly preserved ones for $175 – $225 each. No where on the internet could I find a comparable one that was similar to the conservation of my stunning specimen.
